Carseat Debate

I've been thinking about getting a new car seat for Amelia. The one she has now is fine, nothing wrong with it, so the reason for a new car seat is because I feel getting one that is a convertible (safe for different stages of her growth) would be more cost efficient than buying the car seats as we need them. Plus, being able to get a second base for Greg's car would be nice.

The only down side for buying a new car seat, aside from the price, is that I loose the carrying handle, which is pretty convenient, especially if Amelia is asleep when we get home.

So, my debate is if I should get a new car seat or not.

Mother's Day

Well, this is my first, of many, Mother's Day!

I don't know how I feel. I am still adjusting to being a Mom. It still hasn't really sunken in, yet.

This weekend, Greg, Amelia, and I are going down to my Mom's for a BBQ. We are leaving after Amelia's 4 month check-up. I can't wait to see how much she weighs. It seems like all of a sudden she's become the fat baby. Not in a bad way, of course. It's just weird to me to see her growing out of the blue. Sorta.

Greg tells me that he got me a Mother's Day gift last night. Of course, he won't tell me what it is. Meanie. But, at the same time I do want to be surprised. I've been thinking about Father's Day and what to get Greg. So far, I've only thought about tickets to an Oriole's Game, which I know he would really enjoy. I just need to see what their schedule is and when a good date would be for all of us to go. I am actually looking forward to Father's Day; I can't wait to spoil Greg!

Happy Baby!

Amelia has been much more calm since giving her soy formula. She doesn't cry as much or anything!

Her poo's are no where as bad as they used to be (smell or difficulty in cleaning)! And, she's been going to bed earlier; usually around 8pm.

Amelia has found her hands and will put them together as well as he feet. Pretty soon, she'll be sucking on her toes!

She hasn't started laughing, yet, but she knows how to squeel and shriek! It's so funny to hear her at times!

I can not wait until she begans to laugh then starts to sit up, hold her own bottle, try new foods, etc. This summer is going to be so exciting!

Re: Weekend with Grandma

Amelia spent the weekend with Nana Sue and, for a little while, she was a handful! Amelia did great at the buffet where we, Greg, Mom, April (my cousin), and myself ate. Then, April and Mom, along with Amelia, went to Wal-mart where, I hear, Amelia woke up and was a terror. She, apparently, had a pretty good crying fit and the fit did not stop until 8pm that night. There was a moment when my Mom called me around 7:30 asking "How did I make it stop?" referring to Amelia's crying. I warmed Mom that Amelia becomes really fussy in the evenings. But, eventually, Amelia fell asleep in her car seat (as suggested by Sandy).

On Sunday, when Greg and I drove down to pick Amelia up, Mom asked if she could stay a little longer! I was surprised she asked since she had some challenges the night before. But, it sounds like Amelia has fallen in love with Van and Van with Amelia. According to Mom, Amelia would follow Van with such intent when he was around. But, since I was unprepared to have Amelia stay longer plus there was no advance notice to give April (the babysitter)which I felt was kinda unfair. But, I told Mom and Van that there will be plenty of opportunities this summer for Amelia to spend with them on an extended time frame.

Weekend with Grandma

This weekend, Amelia will be with Grandma as Greg and I enjoy a little time alone (including being away from the roomates).

I've spoken to my Mom (Amelia's grandma.or Nana Sue as she wants to be called) about the plans for the drop off. So, things are a go.

Amelia will probably spend a lot of time outside as my Mom loves to work in her garden. Plus, she mentioned visiting my Uncle Pat (who is the brother of my late Popop) in the hospital.

Mom hasn't seen Amelia since St. Patrick's Day, nearly a month and a half, and Amelia has changed a lot! She's two pounds heavier and probably another inch longer. Amelia is more animated and has begun to grab her feet. Also, she's begun to squeel a lot which I find very entertaining as does Greg.

I can't wait to see what Amelia is going to be like this summer and beyond. I'm so happy the 'new baby' phase is over because I am able to play with her now a days and sleep through the night (which is so amazing).

Today, Amelia is 15 weeks old. It's weird to think about how old she is in perspective of: 15 weeks ago, she was born, yet 15 weeks sounds so much longer (in time) than three and a half months. So, at what point do I stop saying how old she is in weeks and refer to months?

Sick baby

Well, Amelia is having another stomach issue. She's been having these odd bowel movements that look like curdled mustard (and slimy according to the babysitter). She's been having the odd poo since Sunday afternoon.

Sunday evening, Greg and I decided to take Amelia to Nighttime Pediatrics because she wasn't sleeping and her constant crying that sounded like she was in severe pain. We arrived at 7--ish and are given an 'appointment' to return at 9:20! I was under the impression that Nighttime Pediatrics was about urgent care and not setting appointments. So, Greg and I return at 9:10 to fill out paper work and then we wait. We were not seen by the doctor until after 10pm! And, when the doctor DID show, all he did was look in her ears and asked what the symptoms were; all the while as Greg and I were waiting, Amelia had another odd poo and when we told the doctor, in case he wanted to see it to get a better idea of what we were talking about, he didn't even acknowledge that we said anything! All the doctor suggested was to change her formula due to possible reflux and to put her on Pedialyte. We were home by 10:25pm (and it only takes, maybe, 10 minutes to get to Nighttime Pediatrics). Fortunately, Amelia slept through the night once we were home.

Today is 4/26 as I write, but I started this post a few days ago. So this is what's been going on...

Amelia has been taking Pedialyte since Monday morning and nothing else. Today, I spoke with the pediatrician and he wants to try a soy based formula, but we are going to start with half formula and half Pedialyte today and then gradually all formula and see if this improves her symptoms. I'm assuming there is a possible milk allergy causing her diarrhea since the formula I picked up is milk and lactose free. I hope this works. I'm sure she's miserable as I know I would be. But, she seems to be doing ok. Believe me, she has her moments where she is a nightmare screaming her head off and there is nothing I can do to help her, but there are the times where she is a doll, cooing and giggling away (though no laughing). All in all, I am crossing my fingers hoping this works.
